ARU Writtle
The ARU Writtle Equine team has a strong reputation for delivering high-quality equine degree programmes and supporting students to develop the practical skills, knowledge and experience needed for successful careers within the equine industry promoting relevance and employability.
FHEA accredited Equine Lecturer Stephanie Flanigan is responsible for overseeing our partnership with the British Horse Foundation which provides Writtle Equine students with valuable opportunities to apply their learning in a real-world context. As part of business modules such as Consultancy Project and Business Strategy and Operations, students undertake projects that enable them to develop professional and employability skills whilst working on practical activities, including website development, social media and communications.
The collaboration also creates opportunities for students to share their academic work more widely. Assignments relating to genetics and other areas of equine science may be featured in the British Horse Foundation’s newsletters and magazine, giving students experience of communicating research and academic knowledge to a wider audience.
In addition, the British Horse Foundation provides opportunities for students undertaking dissertations to engage with relevant research topics, supporting the development of research skills and contributing to knowledge within the equine sector.
The partnership has also enabled several Writtle Equine students to continue their involvement with the British Horse Foundation beyond their studies, taking on Honorary Officer roles and contributing their skills and expertise to the Foundation. These include Amber Milliken, Honorary Website Development Officer; Evie Berg, Honorary Membership Development Officer; Erin O’Toole, Honorary Conference and Dissemination Officer; and Sophie Oliver, Honorary Social Media Officer. Their continued involvement highlights the opportunities the partnership can create for students to build professional experience, develop their networks and make a meaningful contribution to the equine community.
