The British Horse Foundation Awards

Celebrating the Equine Industry

The BHF is very pleased to announce that from 2026 it will present an Elite Award to the breeder of the Best British Bred horse competing in any of the Olympic of Paralympic disciplines.

The winner of the annual award will be announced each Autumn with the presentation to be made at the prestigious London International Horse Show in December.

BHF Diplomas

Two BHF Diplomas will also be awarded annually and nominations for these awards will come from the British Equestrian Federation Member Bodies.

Category: British Bred horses/ponies that have excelled in competition.

Category: British Bred horses/ponies that have proved to be very special outside the competitive arena.

This could be a horse/pony that has enabled people to be introduced to the joy of riding or encouraged riders to develop and improve their skills in a riding school. Or, it could be a trusted RDA pony that has allowed those with disabilities to gain independence and experience the thrill of horse riding.

How to Enter

If you would like to submit a nomination for a future British Bred Award then please complete the entry form using the link below:

The nomination form should be submitted with a copy of the horse’s passport, confirming it is British Bred together with a photograph and a CV, listing its outstanding achievements or the contribution that the horse has made within its specific area.

BEST BRITISH BRED HORSE AT BURGHLEY 5*

CLASSIC MOET RIDDEN BY JONELLE PRICE

The winner of our £1000 award for the breeder of the highest placed British bred horse at Burghley in 2022 is Elaine Hepworth. Placed 4th, the winning horse was Classic Moet, by Classic out of Gamston Bubbles by Bohemond (photo credit - Libby Law Photography).

BEST BRITISH BRED HORSE AT BADMINTON 5*

LORDSHIPS GRAFFALO RIDDEN BY ROS CANTER

The winner of our £1000 award for the breeder of the highest placed British bred horse at Badminton in 2022 is The Lordship Stud. Placed 2nd, the winning horse was Lordships Graffalo by Grafenstolz out of Cornish Queen by Rock King (photo credit - Hannah Cole Photography). 

BEST OF THE BRITISH BRED AT BADMINTON GRASSROOTS CHAMPIONSHIPS IN THE BE90 CLASS

Circus Standing Ovation wins the award for the highest placed British bred horse in the Grassroots Championships BE90 class.  He was bred by Lesley Fowles and ridden by Penny Clews. By the advanced event stallion Jigilo, whose sire was the famous Jumbo, his mother line goes back to Shaab xx - another great eventing sire.

BEST OF THE BRITISH BRED AT BADMINTON GRASSROOTS CHAMPIONSHIPS IN THE BE100 CLASS

‘Mill House Kann Eye’ winning our award for the highest placed British bred horse in the Grasssroots Championships BE100 in 6th place.  He was bred and ridden by Kirstie Wright, and is by Kannan.  Kannan being the only show jumping stallion to have led the WBF rankings, and is the sire of Nino des Buissonnets, the Olympic Show jumping champion in 2020.
