Meet the BHF Patrons & President

We are delighted to introduce our patrons who are all outstanding figures in the equine industry and bring a wealth of experience and passion which together helps us drive the delivery of the British Horse Foundation’s mission to promote “Better Beginnings” for horses, improving their breeding, youngstock training and development for ongoing sustainable well being, by seeking and sharing evidence based best practice.

Jane Hastie (nee Nixon)

President

Jane is a highly respected equine veterinarian with over 45 years of experience in the field. A Cambridge graduate 1978, she has dedicated her career to the performance horse and young horse development, becoming a leading figure in equine veterinary practice in the UK.

Mick Fitzgerald

Patron

Mick Fitzgerald enjoyed a stellar career as a National Hunt jockey, highlighted by his victories in the 1996 Grand National on Rough Quest and the 1999 Cheltenham Gold Cup on See More Business

Pippa Funnell MBE

Patron

Pippa’s impressive equestrian credentials hardly need any introduction; she won silver medals in the team Eventing at the Sydney and the Athens Olympic Games, where she also won the individual bronze eventing medal.

William Funnell

Patron

William Funnell is a distinguished British showjumper known for his remarkable achievements in the sport. He secured a team gold medal at the 2013 European Championships in Herning, Denmark and has represented Great Britain in numerous Nations Cup teams.

Prof Sidney Ricketts

Professor Sidney Ricketts, LVO, BSc, BVSc, DSc (hc Bristol), DESM, DipECEIM, FRCPath, FRCVS, is a distinguished UK veterinarian specializing in equine stud medicine and equine clinical pathology.
